Keeps members informed of the ongoing changes and trends in the practice of family law in Mecklenburg County by planning monthly lunch and learn CLE programs. Works with the Family Court Administrator to inform family law attorneys of new legislation and court procedures.

Members of the MCB Family Law Section may purchase the Family Law Section CLE Pass, valid for 6 hours of Family Law Section CLE courses, for only $200. The pass may be used for Family Law Section sponsored CLE courses from July 1 - June 30.

2020-21 Family Law SECTION REPORT

During these unprecedented times, section leadership continued to offer section members various educational and networking opportunities to keep section members connected and informed during this unique and challenging year.
The section’s annual business meeting was held on September 17, 2020, during which, the chairs recognized section leadership, met other section members, and reviewed the agenda and financial health of the section for the upcoming year. section members also had the opportunity to make recommendations for section activities.
The section co-presented “The Status Exception to Personal Jurisdiction in North Carolina Termination of Parental Rights Cases”, with the Juvenile Law Section, with an offering of 1.0 accredited CLE hours for members.
The section also co-sponsored QPR: Suicide Prevention Training, a Bar Wide CLE, which offered 2.00 Substance Abuse / Mental Health CLE hours and complimentary admission for a limited number of MCB members.
The section hosted a virtual “Wine & Cheese” tasting event, as well as other networking events, which gave members the opportunity to network and focus on discussions of common interest.
The Family Law Section contributed to the MBF Brick Memorial fund, by honoring Mr. Scott Pollard, beloved fellow practitioner.
The section also purchased portable monitors, for the Clerks of the 26th Judicial District, to assist them with functionality, and productivity.
Through the diligent efforts of leadership and member support, section membership and participation increased during the 2020-21 year.
