Keeps members informed of the ongoing changes and trends in the practice of family law in Mecklenburg County by planning monthly lunch and learn CLE programs. Works with the Family Court Administrator to inform family law attorneys of new legislation and court procedures.

Members of the MCB Family Law Section may purchase the Family Law Section CLE Pass, valid for 6 hours of Family Law Section CLE courses, for only $200. The pass may be used for Family Law Section sponsored CLE courses from July 1 - June 30.

Family Law Section CLE Pass Details

  • This pass provides MCB Family Law Section members the opportunity to attend and enjoy Family Law Section CLEs at a discounted rate.
  • Hours: Six hours of Family Law Section CLE courses
  • Cost: $200.00 - Hourly CLE fee is just under $35/hour with the pass – a great savings!
  • Programs that pass covers: The pass covers up to and including six total hours (6.00) of CLE credit. The programs must be hosted by the MCB Family Law Section.
  • Exceptions to pass: Any program over six hours or multi-day programs are automatically excluded. Each year, the Family Law Section will plan at least 10 hours of CLE from which members can choose.
  • Who can purchase? Current members of the MCB Family Law Section and anyone who joins the Family Law Section throughout the year.
  • How long is it valid? One fiscal year, from July 1 to the following June 30. No hours may be carried over.

 2017-18 Family Law Section Report

The Mecklenburg County Bar Family Law Section’s purpose is to help keep members informed of the ongoing changes and trends in the practice of family law in Mecklenburg County by planning and hosting CLE opportunities and quarterly meetings. The section works with the Family Court Administrator to inform family law attorneys of new legislation and court procedures.

The Section hosted Monthly Meetups and Quarterly Section Meetings, featuring relevant discussions and opportunities for all members to have a voice in the section’s activities and programming.

 In addition to the meetings, the section planned and sponsored eight family law based CLE programs, for a total of 24.75 hours of possible CLE credit. Program topics included:

  • Legal Considerations for Practice of Family Law and Immigration Law – 2hrs
  • Business Valuation Basics for Family Law Practitioners-1hr
  • Background Checks, Drug Testing & More - 1hr
  • Minimizing Bouncebacks: Follow the Recipe for Successful Orders for Forensic and Other Appointments - 4hrs
  • Nuts And Bolts: Everything You Wanted To Hear From Your Family Court District Judges – 1.75hrs
  • Writing Good Orders: What Judges want Family Law Lawyers to Know about Drafting Orders – 4hrs
  • Charlotte Collaborative Divorce Professionals and the Family Law Section Presents: The Tough Ones: Collaborative Cases Involving Serious Mental Health, Domestic Violence, or Substance Abuse Issues – 7hrs
  • Family Law Section, along with Clarity-Financial Present: What Are The Cool Kids Talking About? Valuing Businesses and Divisible Property – 4hrs

Additionally, the section and its leadership hosted several networking and social opportunities including: monthly informal socials and Holiday Party at Sugar Creek Brewing, Knights Baseball Game tickets and CLE receptions.
