Ayscue Professionalism Award Committee
The Mecklenburg Bar Foundation Professionalism Award is presented each year to a current or former member of the Mecklenburg County Bar. Its purpose is to recognize exemplary professionalism, as broadly defined. Criteria may include one or more of the following: Outstanding service through or on behalf of the Mecklenburg County Bar or Mecklenburg Bar Foundation for the benefit of the legal community or the community at large; substantial and significant service to the community, to the Bar, or to the justice system, whether on the basis of lifetime contributions or a specific project; and embodiment of the traits to which all attorneys should aspire-high ethical standards, model conduct, unquestioned integrity, and consistent competence.
Bar Leadership Institute Committee
Encourages lawyers in the development of their professional and leadership skills within the Bar, Foundation and legal profession. A joint MCB and MBF Committee.
Develops and implements financial development plan for the Foundation. The Committee uses the year-long Bar Foundation Fund campaign as its primary fundraising tool.
Finance & Investment Committee
Responsible for orderly maintenance of the Foundation’s books and financial records, preparation of periodic (quarterly) balance sheets, “available cash” summary sheets and budget. Interfaces with the outside auditor, arranges annual audit of the books and implements the Foundation’s investment policy.
Future Bar/Foundation Center Committee
Plans future location/expansions of the Bar Center in accordance with needs. A joint MCB and MBF committee.
Grant Review Committee
Oversees implementation of Grant Request Application process, reviews grant requests and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Law & Society Committee
The Law & Society Committee arranges a speaker of interest to the public and the legal profession for the annual Law & Society Luncheon, including presentation of the Ayscue Professionalism Award that recognizes a current or former MCB member for exemplary professionalism through outstanding service to the MCB and the community. Event proceeds benefit the MBF. A joint MCB and MBF committee.
McMillan Fellowship Committee
The Hon. James B. McMillan Fellowship Fund was established in 1995 to honor the memory and example of U.S. District Court Judge James B. McMillan. The Fund annually supports summer fellowships to law students who have chosen to work with nonprofit or government agencies that promote justice and innovation within the legal system in Mecklenburg County. The Julius Chambers Diversity Award is presented at the McMillan Fund Dinner.
Consists of MBF Executive Committee, two members from the MCB Board and two additional members from the MBF Board. This Committee is chaired by the MBF Immediate Past President. Nominations for the officers and board members are presented to the Board for approval.
