2018-19 Social & Networking Committee Report
Clay A. Campbell, Chair and Elizabeth Goodwin, Vice Chair

The Social & Networking Committee was formed in 2012-13 with the purpose of coordinating a variety of social and networking opportunities to promote collegiality and a cohesive membership, including the Lawyers' Luncheon Series and Holiday Party.

The Committee again utilized marketing techniques and personal outreach this year to drive participation from new attendees in the Lawyers’ Luncheon Series. The series took place in September, October, November, December, February, March and April. The 2018-19 Luncheon Series included some of the following presentations and speakers:
  • Remarks from Andrés López about the “Changes in Treatment of Domestic Violence Claims for Asylum”.
  • District and Superior Court Judicial Candidates Forum
  • Remarks from Bob Sweeney (Greenway Business Center Owner's Association) about the upcoming developments in the Greenway Business Center
  • Remarks from Professor Mark Rabil. Professor Rabil discussed mindfulness as part of a Mental Health CLE
  • To highlight Women’s History month the committee hosted an Employment Law Panel CLE. This timely discussion was hosted by MCB, Charlotte Women’s Bar & Women Lawyers of Charlotte.
  • Remarks from David Erdman, an MCB member and author of The 100 Lost Architectural Treasures of Old Charlotte
The 2018 Holiday Party was held at the Bar & Foundation Center. The event had a great turnout with over 150 registered to attend. The Committee looks forward to hosting another successful Holiday Party in 2019.

Next year, the Committee will continue to explore and implement new networking opportunities.
