Volunteer Need / Commitment

Members of the Lawyer Referral Service Committee attend monthly committee meetings, monitor budget and finances of the LRS program, oversee panel membership rules and regulations, assist in marketing initiatives and evaluate program's effectiveness at year's end.

2017-18 Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) Committee Report
Mallory Willink, Chair and Corey V. Parton, Vice-Chair

The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) Committee oversees the operations of MCB’s LRS program--an ABA-approved program that provides clients a 30-minute consultation with an LRS attorney either free of charge or for $50, depending on the area of law.

2017-18 Highlights:

  • Molly Anthony was selected as the Panel Member of the Year for her service on the LRS. She was presented with the award on May 31, 2018.
  • This year, on average, the LRS program received over 175 requests for referrals per week, up from 153 last year and 120 the year before.
  • LRS attorneys are on track to earn nearly $22,000 in consultation fees and over $100,000 in fees from clients retained through the LRS.
  • New this year for the LRS was an integrated website and database that seeks to help streamline LRS reporting and payments for LRS attorneys.
  • The LRS Committee launched a pilot project to advertise on Google and will review stats for effectiveness moving into the 2018-19 year.
  • The LRS Committee received an operational audit from a third-party consultant in February 2018.  At this time, it is intended for a separate LRS Taskforce to review the results and other data before providing input and guidance for the future of the program.

If you are an attorney interested in joining the LRS, please contact Legal Services Coordinator Lauren Johns at ljohns@meckbar.org or visit the Lawyer Referral Service page for more information.
