2020-21 Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) Committee Report
Joe Culik, Chair
In its first full year of a reimagined web-based referral program, referrals increased significantly as compared to the traditional model in place previously. During the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, referrals had dropped by about 50%. However, referrals did not take long to begin leveling out in the summer and into the fall. The average number of prospective clients referred each month for 2020-21 was 230, showing slight growth as compared to last year overall and substantial growth as compared to the traditional phone-based model previously, which had averaged about 100 referrals per month.
Under this new model, lawyers are free to set and collect their own consultation fees, manage their own online profiles and are no longer required to submit reports or pay commissions to the LRS. The LRS Committee is also directing its expense budget on a new advertising plan, which includes a social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter.
The LRS is now a robust online system that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Prospective clients interested in seeking legal representation submit a form online to receive up to three referrals to lawyers whose practice area(s) match their legal needs.
