2017-18 Bar Leadership Institute Committee Report
Mark W. Kinghorn, Chair & Michael L. Martinez, Vice-Chair

The MCB and MBF Bar Leadership Institute (BLI) enjoyed its first year back from a furlough year that enabled the BLI Committee to review and redevelop the BLI program from beginning to end to help ensure its programming is relevant and aligned to MCB and MBF strategic priorities.  Thanks in large part to the BLI Committee’s commitment and diligence, along with the support of Charlotte-area firms and organizations, the 2017-18 BLI program was a success.

The BLI Class of 2018 is comprised of 20 participants with diverse backgrounds personally and professionally.  Through the BLI, the participants evaluated their personal leadership styles, strengths, and areas for development during a weekend retreat in Hickory, North Carolina and over the course of seven evening sessions that featured prominent legal and civic leaders in our community.

The BLI Committee would like to thank all of the session speakers and panelists for volunteering their time to the BLI this year.  Those speakers include Pat Kelly, Tricia Derr, David Erdman, Hon. Sarah Parker, James Ferguson, Hon. Richard Boner, Dr. Tom Hanchett, Hon. Elisa Chinn-Gary, Dr. Susan McCarter, Rosalind Reid, Ralph Wilson, Jr., Hon. Aretha Blake, Timika Shafeek-Horton, and Heather Culp.  The Committee would also like to thank Matt Burkinshaw of Performance Growth Advisors, Inc. for facilitating this year’s program.

Please join the BLI Committee and MCB and MBF leaders in congratulating the most recent BLI graduates!
