The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a public service of the Mecklenburg County Bar that has been in service for over 60 years. The LRS matches people who need a lawyer, and can afford to pay, with a North Carolina licensed and insured lawyer in good standing. As of August 2019, the LRS no longer charges the client an upfront fee.*
*Lawyers participating in the LRS may set and collect their own consultation fees, if any. This information, and the fee structure, shall be discussed between you and the lawyer(s).
If you cannot afford a lawyer, please click here for a listing of pro bono resources and do not request a referral. That page also links to information about the courts, filing a complaint against a lawyer, and other types of lawyer referrals.
To Request a Referral to a Lawyer:
Click the "Request a Referral" button.
Fill out your contact information.
Select the primary case type of your legal issue. This is called the Primary Panel and is required. The next two fields include the Sub-Panel and County fields and are optional. The Sub-Panel would be the specific issue issue within the Primary Panel. For example, Child Custody/Visitation would be a Sub-Panel of Family Law. The County to identify would be the one in which your matter is or would be pending.
Click "Submit Form." Upon submission, a list of up to three attorneys who meet your selections will be displayed on screen and emailed to you. You are responsible for contacting the attorney(s). They will not contact you first.
If you require assistance, please email the LRS Help Desk or call 704/375-0120.
