Supporting Nonprofit and Government Agencies
Thurs., Feb 21, 2013
Byron's South End (101 West Worthington Avenue)
Each year, the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation's McMillan Fellowship Fund promotes justice and innovation within our local legal system by awarding paid fellowships to law students to work with local nonprofit and governmental agencies. The main source of financial support for these fellowships is the annual McMillan Fund Dinner.
This year's dinner will feature a keynote speaker NC Senator Daniel G. Clodfelter, former clerk to Judge McMillan, followed by the presentation of the Julius L. Chambers Diversity Champion Award to Georgia J. Lewis. The Award recognizes outstanding contributions to diversity and equal opportunity in our community. It is named for the Award's first recipient, the distinguished civil rights attorney Julius L. Chambers, who successfully represented the plaintiffs in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools desegregation case. (The presiding judge in the case was the late James B. McMillan, whose memory the McMillan Fund honors.)
