Young Lawyers Division

If you are 36 years old or younger or within your first three years of practicing law here in Mecklenburg County, you are eligible to join the Mecklenburg County Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD)...and I encourage you to do so! The YLD strives to provide the best forum in Mecklenburg County for young lawyers to build quality relationships and grow their footprint by providing members with professional development, networking and community service opportunities. Relationships begun today can make a huge difference in careers tomorrow. Before long, YLD members will be leaders in business, government and the law, and I invite you to begin developing those leadership skills and cultivating those relationships now by getting involved in YLD.

The YLD consists of a leadership council and six committees comprised of dedicated young lawyers who work selflessly to organize and plan the full slate of events that the YLD puts on every year. Some of these events include Ask-A-Lawyer Days, community service projects, Wills Clinics, Habitat for Humanity builds, social networking events, the YLD Carolina Panthers Tailgate, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, new lawyer swearing-in ceremonies and countless other events. While I hope you will get involved in the YLD in any capacity that your schedule allows, I invite and encourage you to maximize your YLD experience by formally joining a YLD committee. Each committee is seeking volunteers, and I encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity for you to make an impact on the YLD, the MCB and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community by joining one of the committees detailed here.

Being on a committee will give you the opportunity to consider taking a leadership role as a vice chair and then chair of that committee. Each committee chair serves on the YLD Council. The YLD Council meets monthly to discuss YLD business. Council members are then eligible to become YLD Officers, which consists of the YLD Chair, the Vice Chair and the Secretary/Treasurer. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your leadership skills and hone them for future leadership roles within the MCB.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss how to get more involved in YLD, please e-mail either myself ( or call or e-mail the MCB at 704/375-8624 or

You can join the YLD online or you may complete and return this registration form.

I hope you'll join us.
