The primary objective of the 1031 Exchange – A Comprehensive Overview is to educate attorneys on the benefits of using §1031 tax-deferred exchanges for their clients and themselves. The course will detail the entire exchange process from start to finish as well as cover some of the more complex applications of §1031 to ensure exchanges are well received by the IRS and the entire process is fluid and complete for both the attorney and their client. If the attorney does not understand the basics of a 1031 Exchange, their client could face significant tax consequences.

After completion of this course, the attorney will have a keen understanding of the 1031 Exchange, the 1031 Exchange process, and be able to assist in set-up a 1031 Exchange for their clients. The attorney will also be able to identify what type of property qualifies for the 1031 Exchange. They will be able to perform simple capital gains calculations, be able to illustrate the basic tax consequences and guide their clients to the right 1031 Exchange attorneys. The attorney will also obtain a basic knowledge and skill set relevant to the 1031 Exchange and be able to articulate the appropriate information to protect the real estate consumer from paying taxes when investment real estate is disposed of.
