2019-20 Corporate Counsel Section Report
Andrew Walsh, Chair and Karen Kaplan, Vice Chair
During the 2019-20-year, leadership of the Corporate Counsel section offered various educational, social, and networking opportunities to assist section members’ pursuit of their professional development objectives.
In early September, the section hosted the annual business meeting, followed by the educational presentation, “Mental Health and Substance Abuse Awareness for In-House Counsel.” In mid-October, section members enjoyed an evening of networking at Legion Brewing in SouthPark. In December, the section co-hosted the Mecklenburg County Bar’s Holiday party.
Due to the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, educational, social, and networking events, planned for March through June, including the “End of Year Luncheon”, sponsored by Bradley, was cancelled. During the stay at home order, the, section leaders hosted “Virtual; RoundTable- COVID-19 and In-House Counsel”, via a virtual platform to provide support and stay connected to the membership body.
Through the efforts of the leadership and its members’ support, membership participation increased during the year.
The leadership of Corporate Counsel section is always exploring ways to enhance membership experiences. Please submit any ideas to email@example.com.
On a personal note, as outgoing section chair, I wish to thank Karen Kaplan (incoming chair), Sonja Lucas (MeckBar section liaison) and the members for this opportunity and friendship. To an equally wonderful FY21.
Andrew Walsh, Chair
