The Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) is the 26th Judicial District subdivision of the North Carolina State Bar.  The MCB is a mandatory judicial district bar. All attorneys licensed in North Carolina who practice law or live in Mecklenburg County must be a member of the MCB. 


The Mecklenburg County Bar was founded in 1912. 


The mission of the Mecklenburg County Bar is to serve the public and the bar members in improving and preserving the administration of justice, and to assist the North Carolina State Bar as described by statutory requirements. 


The MCB is governed by a Board of Directors. The overall goals are accomplished through the work of more than 70 committees, sub-committees and sections. 

Public Benefits & Services

  • Diversity - The MCB is actively working to retain and increase diversity in the Mecklenburg County legal profession.
  • Grievance & Fee Dispute - The MCB investigates potential professional code of conduct violations, and provides free fee mediation between clients and lawyers or lawyers and lawyers. 
  • Lawyer Referral Service - An ABA-accredited service that provides prescreened client referrals to its panel members.
  • Legal Educational Events
  • Memorials - Memorial services in open court will be arranged for the families of deceased attorneys, when the family desires, by the MCB.
  • Lawyers As Volunteers Program - Matches MCB members with meaningful, legal volunteer opportunities.
