Fundraising Policy

Amended June 2001

 

1.         The Mecklenburg County Bar Board of Directors (the Board) shall approve or disapprove, in its sole discretion, all proposed fundraising efforts, both external and internal, by the Mecklenburg County Bar, Twenty-Sixth Judicial District, or any of its subdivisions (collectively the Bar).  In exercising its discretion to approve any such proposed fundraising efforts, the Board shall consider that it is the intent of this Policy that:

 

The Bar shall be permitted to continue to accept sponsorships and underwriting commitments for specific events, programs and activities of the Bar as has been done successfully in the past;

The Bar shall be permitted to accept gifts to support specific events, programs and activities of the Bar from members of the Bar who are participants in such events, programs or activities as has been done successfully in the past;

Upon notice to the Board by the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation (the Foundation) of anticipated Foundation fundraising activities, the Board shall afford priority to the Foundations fundraising activities in considering whether to approve any fundraising efforts of the Bar;

The Board shall afford priority to the Bars internal fundraising activities in considering whether to approve any fundraising efforts of the Bar; and

The Board shall have the discretion to permit fundraising efforts to fund or support any Bar event, program or activity which the Board believes to be consistent with and in furtherance of the mission, goals and purposes of the Bar as may be adopted from time to time by the Bar.

 

2.         The Board shall approve or disapprove, in its sole discretion, all requests by the Bar for funds from the Foundation.  In exercising its discretion to approve any such requests, the Board shall consider that it is the intent of this Policy that:

 

The Bar shall exercise budgetary discipline to fund from dues, operating revenues and fundraising efforts permitted in accordance with paragraph 1 above, all events, programs and activities which the Board believes to be consistent with and in furtherance of the mission, goals and purposes of the Bar as may be adopted from time to time by the Bar.

The Foundation shall be asked by the Bar to fund only those events, programs and activities which the Board believes to be consistent with and in furtherance of the mission, goals and purposes of the Foundation as may be adopted from time to time by the Foundation.
