26th Judicial District Election 2018

Full Notice and Instructions:

All active members of the Mecklenburg County Bar (the 26th Judicial District Bar), as reflected on the official records of the North Carolina State Bar, have been requested to take notice that an election will be held to fill six seats on the State Bar Council effective January 1, 2019. 

Of the six seats, one seat is currently held by Nancy Black Norelli, who has served three (3) three-year terms and is thus ineligible for re-election at this time.  The following five incumbents are eligible for re-election:

  • A. Todd Brown, Sr., eligible to serve one (1) additional three-year term;
  • Mark P. Henriques, eligible to serve one (1) additional three-year term;
  • David N. Allen, eligible to serve two (2) additional three-year terms;
  • Robert C. (Bobby) Bowers, eligible to serve two (2) additional three-year terms; and
  • Eben T. Rawls III, eligible to serve two (2) additional three-year terms.

The nomination deadline was September 27, 2018; any nominations received after that date will not be on the official ballot.  Write-in candidates are permitted.  

BALLOT INSTRUCTIONS

Voting begins October 1, 2018 at 12 a.m. and ends on October 19, 2018 at 5 p.m.  This election will be held electronically pursuant to 27 N.C.A.C. 1A, Section .0805 of the Rules of the North Carolina State Bar.  An online voting system vendor, Simply Voting, will send you a link and voting credentials (a unique username and password) to access the electronic ballot at the beginning of the voting period.  This information will be sent to the e-mail address you have on file with the MCB.  Please add vote@simplyvoting.com to your safe senders list. 

  • If you are unable to locate the e-mail from Simply Voting, please first check all inboxes you may have on file with the MCB and the spam filters for those inboxes.  The subject line will be “State Bar Council Election - 26th Judicial District” and the sender will be “26th Judicial District - Mecklenburg County Bar” (vote@simplyvoting.com).
  • If the e-mail is not in any of your inboxes/spam filters or you otherwise require assistance, please contact MCB Director of Compliance & Ethics Shannon R. Reid at ballotassistance@meckbar.org or 704-375-8624.

  • If you do not have Internet access, computers will be available during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) during the voting period at the Bar & Foundation Center located at 2850 Zebulon Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28208. 

Under the Rules of the State Bar, the election of a councilor must be by majority of the ballots cast.  In the event a run-off is required for one or more seats, you will be notified via e-mail, and the run-off election(s) will begin on Monday, December 3, 2018 and will end on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
