For many attorneys, Involuntary Commitments are a nebulous and confusing area of law. In addition, clients and family members of individuals that have been committed are left trying to navigate a scary situation. Jeremy B. Smith has recently had to navigate this process, with a very close family member. He and Mr. Botts will give both legal and practical opinions of Involuntary Commitments, with the opportunity for questions, about this difficult area of the law.
Mark F. Botts, is an associate professor of public law and government in the School of Government at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Jeremy B. Smith, practices at Pinnacle Law and is the Vice Chair of the Criminal Justice section. Prior to entering into private practice, Jeremy acted as an Assistant District Attorney in the District Attorney’s Office for both the 8th (Wayne, Lenoir, and Greene Counties) and 20B Districts (Union County).
The views and opinions are not necessarily those of the 26th Judicial District Bar.
