Biased? Me? --The Biology and Psychology of Decision-making, and How Lawyers Can Improve Interpersonal Skills;
[The original version of the Bias Course was awarded recognition by the American Inns of Court in Washington, DC to be one of the six “Outstanding Presentations” of 2018 in the United States]
DESCRIPTION:
So much of the practice of law involves decision-making, and convincing others to make better decisions based upon fact rather than emotion. This course is intended to guide the attendees to appreciate how they involuntarily make decisions and guide them to recognize and prevent bias, and to know how to effectively communicate with persons whose bias affects others. We’ll be discussing the biology of human decision-making, including emotion, complex cognition and reasoning. We’ll learn “tipping points” and reframing issues to overcome misunderstandings.
SPEAKER:
Claude E. Ducloux, Board-Certified in Civil Trial Law and Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and National Director of Education, Ethics and State Compliance, LawPay.
