COMMITTEES

Academic Internship Committee

This committee provides local high school juniors and seniors an internship experience in law.

Community Service Committee

Each year this committee sponsors a variety of activities to benefit the community in which we live and work. The committee seeks energetic people with new ideas to foster continued growth. Past activities have included collecting Christmas gifts for children and senior citizens and sponsoring a clothing drive for Crisis Assistance Ministries.

Education Committee

The goal of this committee is to bring a message of equality under the law for all people - particularly as it relates to race, religion, sex, and ethnic origin - to Mecklenburg County Elementary School students. Pairs of attorneys go into the local schools to work with third graders during 2 one hour sessions.

Law Explorers Committee

Through the Boy Scouts, this committee creates an annual program for exposing young adults to the practice of law.

Lawyers Teaching Justice Committee

Teaches 10th grade students about constitutional and legal issues by working with civics teachers to prepare programs and enrichment in conjunction with the NC Standard Course of Study curriculum for public schools.
 
  - Elizabeth Trosch, Chair

Social Committee

The purpose of this committee is to stimulate the participation of young lawyers in other YLS activities, to foster communication and cooperation among young lawyers, and to enhance lawyer-to-lawyer relationships.

Swearing In Committee

This committee organizes swearing in ceremony in the spring and fall for the newly admitted members of the Bar.

Continuing Legal Education Committee

Develops, implements, and oversees CLE programs for young lawyers in conjunction with the district Bar in conformance with the rules of NCSB CLE Board.
