Spring is in the air, so let's play ball! The Mecklenburg County Bar is organizing two softball leagues -- the Co-Ed League plays on Monday nights and the Lawyers' League plays on Tuesday and Wednesday nights starting the first week of June through late August at Veteran's Park.

Start organizing your team rosters now - the MCB is accepting new teams and players!  Contact Softball Commissioner Bryan Stone at 704/333-5184 or bstone@swlawnc.com by Fri., May 17 to reserve your spots.   Fees are $490/team - payment must be received no later than Fri., May 24.

We'll see you in the dugout!

Softball Champions!

Bryan W. Stone, Softball Commissioner

Save Noah and his crew, few have endured the waging weather like the MCB Softball League this summer.  Inspired by the Summer Olympics, some wondered whether the MCB Sports Committee had added water polo to its offerings.  But then there was sunshine to dry the rain, there were summer winds to sweep away the dark clouds, and there were the faithful followers that didn't abandon the ship until it ran upon dry land.  And when it did, we played softball.

This season returned the Champions' banner to McAngus, Goudelock, and Courie, who won their third MCB Lawyers League Championship in a row.  Pulling together their best for the important part of the season, they beat More Cowbell in the semis and then triumphed over the team from Robinson Bradshaw Hinson who beat Moore & Van Allen in their semi-final game.  Next year, the other teams in the Lawyers' League must strive to topple this emergent titan on the field.

In our Co-Ed Softball League, the District Attorneys prevailed in the semis over Snitch Hitters and then toppled the Usual Suspects in a thrilling one-run victory to capture the 2012 Co-Ed Softball League Championship.  The team from Family Dollar, however, will go into next season with something to prove as they won the right to a semi-final spot, but were unable to compete for the championship due to a company-wide meeting out-of-state.

Congratulations to all the participants on another successful and enjoyable softball season.  With nearly 20 teams and more than 200 of your Bar members, the Softball Leagues have once again demonstrated that it is one of the strongest and populous groups sponsored by the MCB.  To all the players, coaches and supporters, thank you for making it a great season and until next year, keep the hamstrings limber and the shoulders stretched.
