2014-15 Legal Volunteer Recruitment Committee Report
Evan M. Sauda, Chair and Sarah W. Breen, Vice-Chair

During the 2014-15 year, the Legal Volunteer Recruitment Committee (LVRC) focused its efforts on recruiting MCB members to volunteer with Legal Aid of North Carolina, Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, Council for Children’s Rights, the SelfServe Center, and the MCB Pro Bono Program.

Additionally, the LVRC drafted and proposed a new service award for the provision of Extraordinary Bar and/or Foundation Service.  Upon it’s approval, the LVRC accepted a nomination by MCB/MBF leaders to award Carol Jones Van Buren for her tireless efforts in strategizing and planning a number of different aspects involved in the construction of the new Bar and Foundation Center building.  The LVRC was also responsible for soliciting nominations and selecting recipients for the 2015 Pro Bono Service Awards.  Rebecca K. Lindahl won the Outstanding Individual Attorney Award for her work with domestic violence victims and other disadvantaged members of our community.  Sodoma Law won the Outstanding Collaborative Project Award for the firm’s aggregate charitable endeavors, including the 382 hours of pro bono service the firm’s 10 attorneys provided to community members, children, and nonprofit organizations.

The Committee has joined the Nonprofit and Client Pro Bono Committee as a joint committee and will continue its volunteer recruitment efforts.
