The MCB Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) works with several organizations in Mecklenburg County to offer a variety of fulfilling pro bono opportunities to MCB members.  



Legal Services Of Southern Piedmont (LSSP)

If you want to help low-income persons who cannot afford representation, LSSP is just what you are looking for. We have provided free legal services to low-income people in the Charlotte, North Carolina area for thirty-five years. LSSP has specialized project teams of advocates that create the Hispanic Outreach Program, the Family Support and Health Care Program, and the Consumer and Housing Program. We need your help in handling the following types of cases:

Legal Aid Of North Carolina (LANC)

Do your interests lie in helping low-income persons? LANC is for you. LANC was established in Charlotte in July of 2002 and was formerly half of the staff of the Charlotte branch of LSSP. We provide free legal assistance to low-income persons in civil matters in Mecklenburg County. Our clients need your help in the following areas:

Council For Children's Rights 

The Council for Children's Rights offers the most comprehensive range of specialized advocacy and legal services for children in North Carolina. We train lawyers and lay volunteers to participate in representing children confronting an ever-complex and already over-burdened legal system to ensure the childs needs are met whether it be in cases involving parents arguing over their custody, an unmet educational need arising out of their exceptional circumstances, compulsory exclusion from school, being committed and confined for institutional mental treatment, or delinquency charges in juvenile court. The volunteer opportunities available offer exceptional value for those who really want to make a difference.

Pro Bono for Non Profits Program

Are you interested in providing business law services to a charitable organization? The Pro Bono for Nonprofits programs matches business lawyers with charities who need assistance on issues of corporate organization and governance, general contracts, tax exemption, commercial real estate transactions, and other business transactions.

 

 

MCB Estate Planning And Probate Sections Wills Project

This program provides wills, health care powers of attorney, and other advanced directives to low-income clients.


Mecklenburg County SelfServe Center
Volunteer attorneys staff the SelfServe Center to assist pro se litigants with form preparation and court procedure. Litigants must meet income requirements.
