2013-14 LRS Committee Report

Toniann Primiano, Chair & Kerry B. Everett, Vice-Chair

The LRS Committee was successful across many fronts: client fees, commissions, membership dues, number of client calls and referrals. This success can be attributed to a number of factors, including consistent intern help from either Charlotte School of Law or Central Piedmont Community College’s Paralegal Program. Having interns every semester, including the summer, allows LRS staff to concentrate on the more administrative duties of the program while allowing the interns to gain invaluable experience of interacting with clients. In addition, LRS staff has made a more concerted effort to consistently communicate with the LRS panel members, reducing miscommunication for both LRS staff and clients.

The outlook for the upcoming fiscal year is bright as we had a record number of attorneys join the LRS panel through the Spring membership special.

2013-14 Highlights

·         As of mid-June, LRS’s income is almost 10% over budget and LRS attorneys have received more than  $330,000 in client fees.

·         The LRS Guidelines were updated and approved.

·         LRS staff attended the annual ABA LRS Conference in Atlanta where they learned about up and coming trends in the LRS field as well as tips and tricks from other programs around the country.

·         LRS Panel Member of the Year was awared to Dexter Benoit of Beniot Law. He demonstrated willingness to go the extra mile not only for LRS clients but LRS staff as well.

·         LRS brochures were printed targeting specific demographics including immigration clients, Social Security Disability clients and Spanish-speaking clients. These brochues will be distributed throughout the courthouse and with other agencies in the area in an effort to bring in new clients.
