 2011-12 Report

The CLE Committee has had another very busy year.  At the end of April, the Bar presented 158 CLE programs since July 1, 2011, resulting in 420 hours of CLE. The chairs graciously thank all of the CLE Committee members, program planners, speakers and CLE staff members - Lisa Armanini, Sally Kenney and Sara Poplin - who have pushed us to a total gross income of $520,000 to date.

The Committee's 2011-12 goal was to provide the Bar with more CLE options that focused on both the basics and the emerging practices within our profession. The Committee worked to increase the online CLE library and the opportunities to participate in live CLEs via the web, all in an effort to provide flexibility and accessibility to the Bar.

The 2011-12 year is not quite finished.  There are several fantastic programs left on the schedule.  Don't forget to check www.MeckBarCLE.org, your e-mail and the monthly Mecklenburg Bar News for your opportunity to take one of these end-of-year CLEs. The line-up includes the Annual Western District Bankruptcy Seminar, the fifth installment of the Centennial Lecture Series featuring Duke CEO, Jim Rogers, the final installment of the Centennial Lecture Series featuring MCB members serving in public roles and a Concealed Carry Handgun and Gun Law course held at the Range at Lake Norman.

The Committee understands that the members of the Bar have a choice in where they spend their CLE dollars, and year after year appreciates Bar members choosing to spend their resources here in Mecklenburg County.  With the exception of the mandatory dues, CLE revenue is the largest funding source for the local Bar. Please continue to support local programming that funds many other MCB programs and services operated out of the Bar Center and in the community.

Please don't hesistate to contact the Bar staff, committee members and co-chairs with suggestions or concerns regarding CLE programming. In addition, if you would like to get involved in speaking for a CLE, planning a CLE or sitting on the Committee, please contact the CLE staff or co-chairs Heath Gilbert or Jenny Holman. Our term ends July 31, 2012 and we would like to welcome Erika Erlenbach and Glenn Thompson as the 2012 - 2013 CLE Committee leaders.
