2014 - 15 CLE Committee Report

Patricia W. McGee, Chair & Katherine T. Armstrong, Vice-Chair

The CLE committee has had another very busy year.  The move to the Bar & Foundation Center at 2850 Zebulon Avenue opened up in-house training facilities that all enjoyed. Moving towards an era of new technology, MCB CLE is looking forward to increase on-demand programming, along with the addition of webcast courses. Looking back, over 150 live and video programs were produced resulting in 450 hours of CLE. Commended for this wealth of CLE programming is CLE leadership, committee members, program planners, speakers and the invaluable input of MCB practice sections.

Goals in 2014-15 were promoting more programs with a social networking component, moving back into the realm of webcasting, increasing the number of creative CLE programs that have interaction or interesting topics of discussion, and creating net revenue goals for each program to track the success rate. MCB CLE also continued as a key sponsor for the State Bar mandatory Professionalism for New Attorneys class.

Financially CLE was budgeted to earn income of $587,500.00 with expenses of $190,000.00. Closing out the year, CLE will fall short of budgeted income goals, but planning is well underway for 2015-2016, and a team of committed CLE staff plus an energized committee are already working on fall and winter programming.

Members of the Bar have a choice in where they spend their CLE dollars, and year after year MCB CLE appreciates you choosing to spend your resources here in Mecklenburg County.  With the exception of the mandatory dues, CLE revenue is the largest funding source for our local Bar. Members of the Bar are encouraged to contact CLE staff, committee members and leadership with suggestions or concerns regarding CLE programming. In addition, getting involved is easy – planning, speaking or sitting on the committee – simply contact CLE Director Lisa Armanini larmanini@meckbar.org or CLE Coordinator Alison Rogers arogers@meckbar.org .
