2013-14 Bar Leadership Institute Committee Report

Alice P. Moore, Chair & Jon P. Carroll, Vice-Chair

Thanks to the hard work and support of countless people and firms in Mecklenburg County, the MCB/MBF Bar Leadership Institute has had a very successful year.  The BLI Class of 2014 is comprised of 19 dynamic and diverse participants who practice in large, mid-sized and small firms, represent government and municipal agencies, and practice in corporate law departments.  With the help of program facilitators, Jayne and Vern Williams from Myndworks Learning Network, Inc, the BLI Class evaluated their personal leadership styles, strengths and areas for development.  Following the always popular weekend retreat in Hickory, NC, the BLI Class participated in a series of evening sessions featuring prominent leaders in our legal and civic community.

The BLI Committee would like to thank all speakers who selflessly gave up their evenings to work with the class for free.  The speakers included Carla N. Archie, E. Osborne Ayscue Jr., Dianne C. Bailey, Debra D. Campbell, Trevor M. Fuller, Dr. Tom W. Hanchett, Brian S. Heslin, Emily M. Jones, M. Janelle Lyons, Mark W. Merritt, Corie D. Pauling, Willie Ratchford, Nancy M. Roberson, Amanda B. Saylor, E. Taylor Stukes, Kevin P. Tully and Hon. Charles M. Viser.

The BLI program has graduated more than 200 members of the MCB, most of whom are now active in the many committees and sections of the MCB and MBF and many of whom hold leadership positions within the MCB and MBF.  The BLI Class of 2014 will, no doubt, be just as active and involved as past program participants. They have already committed to researching and developing a plan to engage the underemployed and unemployed attorneys with the MCB and MBF.

Please join the BLI Committee and the leadership of the MCB and MBF in congratulating the newest graduates of the BLI!
