Swearing In of Hon. Lisa Bell

Chief District Court Judge Lisa Bell will take the oath of office as a Special Superior Court Judge on Wednesday, May 1 at 1 PM in courtroom 6370. Superior Court Judge W. Robert Bell will preside. All are welcome to attend.

Court Camp Registration Deadline - 4/30/13

The April 30th deadline to register your child for Court Camp is quickly approaching! Session I is full, but spaces are still available in Session II, Session III, and Session IV. Register your child today to make sure they have an opportunity to participate in this unique experience!

 


New Lead Jury Coordinator

The Trial Court Administrator's Office welcomes Elizabeth Wilhelm as the new Lead Jury Coordinator. Elizabeth will be responsible for the direct management of jury operations in Mecklenburg County.

 

Elizabeth has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Western Carolina. Prior to joining the TCA's Staff, Elizabeth was employed by Code Enforcement, where she testified in Environmental Court and at hearings of the Citizen Housing Appeals Board. She regularly conducted meetings and educational sessions with citizens, neighborhood groups and neighborhood leaders. She also collaborated with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and other agencies. 

 

Prior to her position in Code Enforcement, Elizabeth worked as a Police Dispatch/Telecommunicator with CMPD. She provided direct customer service in a very high-paced environment, where she supervised 6 employees. Additionally, she was selected as a Civilian Training Officer, training and directly supervising approximately 30 officers.

Hon. Regan A. Miller Appointed as Chief District Court Judge for the 26th Judicial District

Hon. Sarah Parker, Chief Justice of the NC Supreme Court, appointed Hon. Regan A. Miller as Chief District Court Judge for Judicial District 26 to succeed Judge Lisa C. Bell, who has been appointed Special Superior Court Judge. In addition to presiding over cases before the District Court, the Chief District Court Judge has administrative duties, including assigning the judges to sessions of court.

"Judge Miller has served with distinction as a District Court Judge for over 13 years, has unanimous support of his colleagues on the District Court bench, and has the experience and vision necessary for the successful administration of the largest judicial district in our state." The Chief Justice stated in her email to local court officials announcing the appointment. Justice Parker wrote, "As expressed by one of his colleagues, Judge Miller" will work diligently and strategically with all our community and justice partners to ensure that the 26th Judicial District continues to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of the public and the bar."

 


Mecklenburg County Historic Court House Re-Opening

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners and the District Attorney invite Bar members to celebrate the re-opening of the Mecklenburg County Historic Court House on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Court House - 700 East Trade Street Charlotte, NC.

 


 

NEWS RELEASE - Mecklenburg County Courts Upgrade Interactive Voice Response System for Juror and Fine Collection Department Information

In an effort to improve customer service, Mecklenburg County Courts have implemented an upgraded interactive voice response (IVR) system. These automated systems will assist citizens who receive juroy summons in gathering more information and defendants placed on payment plans that need access to information regarding outstanding fees. These automated phone lines operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provide callers with information in either English or Spanish.

 


 

Memo to Members of the Defense Bar; Public Defenders; District Attorneys and Court Personnel RE: Local Rules for Mecklenburg County, NC 

A draft of the Local Rules of Practice in Criminal Courts for Mecklenburg County have been proposed.  The rules are being offered for review and ask that comments and clarifications be submitted within 10 days (5:00 p.m. on 12/10/12) for consideration in amending or correcting the same.  Please forward all comments or suggestions to Pat Hines at pat.hines@nccourts.org

 


 

Administrative Order from Judges Boner and Bell

All pleadings and other documents required to be filed in any matter in the Superior Court and the District Court of Mecklenburg County or in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Mecklenburg County which were delivered to the Mecklenburg County Courthouse by U.S. mail, Federal Express, UPS or other like delivery service on September 7 or which are delivered on September 10 or September 11, 2012 shall be deemed to have been received and filed on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 nunc pro tunc.


The Trial Court Administrator's Office is accepting nominations for the 2012 Helen Stonestreet Employee Of The Year Award.  Deadline:  9/28/12

Serving Our Courts, Serving Our Country

Judge Frank Whitney joined the United States Army Reserve right out of college. When he was appointed a federal judge for the Western District of North Carolina, he continued to serve his country in the military. Last year the two jobs merged. Whitney became the first active federal judge to serve as a military judge in a theater of war; in this instance, in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Mecklenburg County Courthouse Inclement Weather Policy -- Updated February 2012

In the event of inclement weather and/or emergencies that affect courthouse operations, you may now call an Emergency Announcement Line at 704-686-0289 to hear announcements, instructions, etc. - you will not be able to leave messages. This replaces the former procedure of calling the District and/or Superior Court Judge's Office lines.  Announcements will also be posted on http://www.nccourts.org/Default.asp in the lower right corner of the page.
