Silent Partners

Golf Tournament
(Fall)
|
This Golf Tournament has been a favorite of MCB members for over 20 years. Participants enjoy lunch and refreshments before engaging in friendly competition on the green. Past highlights have included a hole-in-one contest for a luxury sedan. Following the tournament, players and guests enjoy a catered collegial reception/prize ceremony.

Fall & Spring Swearing Ins
(Late September and Late April)
|
Our swearing-in ceremonies are different from many around the country because they are personalized celebrations of achievement. Attorneys who have passed the North Carolina Bar Exam receive individual introductions by established MCB attorneys before being sworn in to the North Carolina State Bar. A catered reception follows, where family, friends, judges, and attorneys welcome the newly barred attorneys into the legal community.

Holiday Party
(Mid-December)
|
This event, which is open to all MCB members, provides a relaxed atmosphere for attorneys and judges to gather, reconnect, and create new relationships. Past holiday parties have attracted at least 200 attorneys, who enjoyed great food, friendship, and holiday fun.

Law Day
(On or Around May 1)
|
Established in 1958 by President Eisenhower, our local event is part of a national celebration of America's legal system. This event attracts at least 200 to 300 attorneys for a luncheon program that includes a keynote speaker of regional or national acclaim. Local high-school student winners of the Charlotte Observer Law Day Essay Contest are announced. The Liberty Bell Award is also presented to a deserving non-attorney whose work has helped advance the cause of freedom under the law

Annual Meeting
(Late May)
|
Our Annual Meeting is an almost 100-year-old tradition in the Charlotte legal community that our attorneys look forward to each year. It attracts approximately 400 to 500 individuals each year to an outdoor location (depending on weather) in uptown Charlotte. Participants enjoy a barbecue lunch while lawyers doing superior pro bono work are recognized, attorneys who have passed away in the past year are remembered, the MCB board of directors is elected, the new MCB president is sworn in, and door prizes are drawn. The largest firms in the area have traditionally sent large groups to this relaxed, fun event.

Lawyers Referral Service Reception (June)
|
For almost 60 years, our ABA-approved Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) has served the community by providing referrals to attorneys (mainly sole practitioners and small firms) who agree to provide a 30-minute consultation at a reduced rate. LRS has approximately 100 attorneys making their services available to the public. The annual LRS Reception is an intimate event that recognizes an attorney for outstanding service to the community and is an opportunity for new members to join LRS panel.
