One call to the Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) can get you to the right attorney.

Simply call 704/375-0120

to speak with an LRS referral specialist.

The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a public service of the Mecklenburg County Bar.  The LRS matches people who need a lawyer and can afford to pay with an experienced attorney licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina. You will discuss your situation with one of our referral specialists who will help determine the type of attorney you need.

If you choose to use LRS call 704/375-0120 and you will be put in touch with a licensed, qualified attorney for an up-to-30 minute consultation at the program rate of $50.  You and the attorney will then discuss next steps, including whether or not ongoing representation is needed and any associated costs.  If you are seeking an attorney for bankruptcy, social security disability, workers compensation, personal injury, wrongful death, slip and fall, or medical and/or dental malpractice, there is no fee for the 30 minute consultation.

Our staff:

Preparing for Your Meeting with the Attorney

·         Familiarize yourself with all of the facts relevant to your legal matter before the meeting. For instance, if you want your will drafted, put together a general inventory of your assets and specific items you wish to leave to your beneficiaries as well as a list of the full names and addresses of those beneficiaries. If you were involved in an accident, know the date, location and information about the other driver and make a list of your treating doctors.

·         Ask the lawyer in advance what documents you should bring with you and gather any other relevant documents that you think may be helpful.

·         Make sure you know where the lawyer's office is located and try to arrive a few minutes in advance of your scheduled appointment.

·      Be candid and honest during the meeting with your attorney about all aspects of your matter.  Avoid withholding any information regardless of whether or not you believe it will help or hurt your matter.

The Lawyer Referral Service is a public service provided by the Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB), a not-for-profit membership organization, established in 1912 to serve the public and bar members in improving and preserving the administration of justice.  A list of the names of panel attorneys will be mailed free of charge upon written request to the Mecklenburg County Bar.  However, in order to be eligible for the reduced consultation fee, clients must receive a referral through the MCB LRS.
