MCB Softball Leagues Crown 2014 Champs
By Bryan W. Stone, Lawyers' League Commissioner and Merissa D. Hannah, Co-Ed League Commissioner
After the storied victory of Pain & Suffering last year, one could hardly imagine that the 2014 MCB Softball season would be so compelling. Yet, in the Lawyers’ League, an underdog once again rose to take the title of League Champion. Despite their dominating march to the playoffs, Costner Law and More Cowbell were thwarted by the lower-ranked Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson and McAngus Goudelock & Courie. In a classic battle between two stalwarts of the league, McAngus Goudelock & Courie took the win in the finals to claim the throne of 2014 MCB Lawyers’ League Champions. Even more impressive is that this is the champ’s fourth win in five seasons, with last year being the sole blemish on their recent record. With talk of dynasty in the air, the other competitors in the Lawyers’ League better take a little BP in the offseason.
The Co-Ed league was equally thrilling this year. With the rise of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein to dynasty status last year, several teams entered the season, ready to be crowned the new Co-Ed champion. All eyes were on the DA's office, with their near perfect regular season record. All that stood between them and the Championship game were the lower-ranked Federal Benchwarmers. The Federal Benchwarmers proved to be too much for both the DA's office and Hedrick Gardner, as the Federal Benchwarmers battled their way through the playoffs to become the 2014 MCB Co-ed League Champions.
On behalf of the MCB and the Softball Commissioners, thank you to all the captains and players this year for making the season another safe, competitive, yet professional atmosphere. The MCB Softball Leagues provide an opportunity for more than 300 MCB members to play and celebrate their comradery each summer. If you’re interested in joining or fielding a team, be sure to keep an eye MeckBar.org and Mecklenburg Bar News come spring of 2015.
