In this one-hour presentation, William R. Terpening of Nexsen Pruet, PLLC will analyze and attempt to solve the various ethical and strategic problems that can arise when we determine that our clients are lying, or may be lying, to use, the other side or the Court.

 

10:00 am – 11:00 am: North Carolina’s Original Copy of the Bill of Rights – A Lawyer’s Dream or Nightmare? (1.0 Ethics)

The Honorable Paul M. Newby, North Carolina Supreme Court, will retell the story of his involvement with the “sting” operation for the return of North Carolina’s original copy of the Bill of Rights while he was an Assistant United States Attorney.  His presentation will focus of the legal and ethical issues involved with the case.

 

11:00 am – 12:00 pm: North Carolina Lawyer Assistance Program: Confidential Assistance for Lawyers (1.0 Mental Health/Substance Abuse)

Robynn E. Moraites, Executive Director, NC LAP, will provide an overview of the NC LAP program.  Topics include:
