Program & Speaker:

Justice Newby will retell the story of his involvement with the “sting” operation for the return of North Carolina’s original copy of the Bill of Rights while he was an Assistant United States Attorney.  His presentation focuses on the legal ethics issues involved with the case.

A gentleman walks into your office with what is purported to be North Carolina’s original copy of the Bill of Rights.  He would like you to render an opinion that his possession and sale of the document is lawful, and he would like you to represent him in arranging a sale of the document.  What are the ethical implications?

The Honorable Paul M. Newby, North Carolina Supreme Court
