Studies reveal that parties to civil disputes have a significantly greater chance of achieving satisfactory outcomes if counsel represents them.  Yet large numbers of low and moderate income people lack the financial means to hire lawyers.  As such, they have no meaningful access to our justice system.  This session will examine our state's access to justice crisis, and will describe the efforts to address the issue, including the adoption of Rule 6.1 of the North Carolina Revised Rules of Professional Conduct, and will highlight the available pro bono opportunities in our community.
