9:00 am - 10:00 am: N.C. Rules of Practice - Jason James, Poyner Spruill LLP

The General Rules of Practice for the Superior and District Courts are a must read for every attorney practicing in this State.  The General Rules are designed to supplement the Rules of Civil Procedure and provide practical guidelines to make our Courts more efficient.  If you are like most of us, you know that they are out there, but never look at them until an issue arises with opposing counsel.  It's time to revisit the General Rules and see what you may have been missing!

10:00 am - 11:00 am: Mecklenburg County Superior Court Local Rules - Amanda Mingo, Rawls, Scheer, Foster, Mingo & Culp, PLLC

This part of the seminar will cover the concept of Local Rules in general and the nuances of the Mecklenburg County Superior Court Local Rules of Civil Court.  Highlighted will be those rules that cause attorneys the most problems and we will look at cases which address the Local Rules.  Included in this discussion will be feedback from the Mecklenburg County Trial Court Administrator's Office regarding the most common inquiries and difficulties faced by members of the Bar as they adhere to the requirements of local rules.

11:00 am - 12:00 pm: Practicing With Adult ADHD - Tips and Suggestions from a Layman - M. Heath Gilbert, Baucom, Claytor, Benton, Morgan & Wood, P.A.

Have you consistently had trouble focusing or concentrating, often combined with a feeling of restlessness or disorganization?  Have you been known to be impulsive or do you have difficulty completing tasks?  Have you suffered in your attorney-client relationships from constantly being late or inattentive?  Have you been diagnosed with or suspect that you suffer from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)?  We will explore mechanisms for handling, coping and practicing with Adult ADHD as a trial lawyer and a transactional attorney, including tools, strategies and processes developed over years of trial and error.
