Program & Speaker:

Judge Beyer will discuss her professional path and focus on the importance of mentorship and making it a part of your professionalism practice.  She will also address strategies for meeting the ethical challenges in the courtroom and the special challenges of serving as Chief Judge.  Judge Beyer will share some personal anecdotes that are sure to make even the most seasoned lawyer smile.  She will take questions from attendees.

 

Chief Judge Laura Turner Beyer - In November 2011, Judge Beyer was appointed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit to a fourteen-year term as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of North Carolina.  She is the first woman to be appointed to the bankruptcy bench in the W.D. N.C.  A native of Tifton, Georgia, Judge Beyer received her B.A. from Davidson College and her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She worked in private practice at Smith, Helms, Mullis & Moore, LLP, and went on to serve as Judge George R. Hodges' permanent law clerk prior to succeeding him upon his retirement.  She currently serves as Chief Judge of the local bankruptcy court.
