Program & Speaker:

New technology and digital communication is pushing the limits of the Rules of Professional Conduct. Can we apply the rules designed for old school law practice to the internet, email, blogging and social media? Does reading the tea leaves of ethics opinions cast any light on the future of the legal profession?

In this presentation, we will discuss:

·         How ethics opinions are issued from the NC State Bar

·         New and pending NC State Bar ethics opinions

·         The future of the legal profession

Speaker:

Mark Scruggs joined Lawyers Mutual in March 2001 as a claims attorney.  Formerly a partner with Spear, Barnes, Baker Wainio & Scruggs, LLP in Durham, Mark has over 14 years of experience as a trial attorney concentrating in insurance defense litigation.  Mark handles litigation-related claims, as well as workers' compensation and family law matters.  He is currently serving as an advisory member of the North Carolina State Bar Ethics Committee.  Mark is a past chair of the Law Practice Management section of the North Carolina Bar Association and is a 1986 cum laude graduate of Campbell University School of Law.
