Program & Speaker:

From 2003 to 2006, The Hon. V. Stuart Couch was assigned to the Department of Defense Office of Military Commissions to prosecute selected individuals detained at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.  His conduct during that assignment was the subject of a front-page article in the Wall Street Journal about his decision not to prosecute a case because the evidence was obtained through torture.  In recognition of his actions, Judge Couch was awarded the American Bar Association’s “Minister of Justice” Award in 2007, and the German Bar Association’s “Pro Reo” Award in 2009.
